CupriSorb is a strong adsorbent for copper and heavy metals. It removes copper faster and more efficiently than carbon and is therefore ideal in an emergency where we need to remove excess copper immediately. It extracts all types of copper from water and, if in constant use, also from gravel or ground. CupriSorb enables the maintenance of invertebrates in copper-treated tanks by removing copper leaching from the substrates.
The competing products are not chelating products, but only cationic ion exchange resins. These resins can remove copper from freshwater, but are ineffective in salt water.
Use 250 ml for every 600 L of water to remove up to 7,500 mg (12 ppm) of copper. Use in a filter bag. For best results, CupriSorb should be placed in a location with maximum water flow directly on the bag. To remove undetectable leaching of copper from the substrate, use CupriSorb for a period of at least 2 weeks until no copper is detectable by testing. Use in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, bucket filter, or other high water flow filter. Exhaustion is evident by the clear discoloration of the spheres to dark blue or black. Control the level of copper with tests. CupriSorb can be regenerated and reused. Regeneration: Pour 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of hydrochloric acid into a non-metallic container (available from pool supply stores. Pay attention to the warning on the acid container). This is best done outdoors and away from children. Soak for 1 hour, then rinse thoroughly. Repeat as needed to restore the original color. Rinse copiously, add sodium bicarbonate until foaming ceases and rinse again. CupriSorb is now ready to be used again. If the original color cannot be restored after several attempts to clean with hydrochloric acid, rinse and repeat the sodium bicarbonate step, then regenerate as with Purigen.
