Product description
Ultra-active high-performance brick-shaped denitrification medium, enriched with elemental sulfur.
General information
The highest porosity degree of all filter media available in the world and the largest filtration surface in relation to product weight and volume.
It provides a large surface for effective colonization by denitrification bacteria. Enriched with sulfur to act as an electron donor to accelerate the reduction of inorganic nitrogen forms in freshwater, marine and ponds.
Over 6600 m2 of filter medium for every 1 liter of water. One brick gives over 9290 m2 of usable area for bacterial colonization.
Significantly reduces the amount of phosphates and dissolved organic substances.
The very high porosity of the medium allows the absorption of water, thanks to which it remains moist for many days after removing from the filter, ensuring bacteria to survive in the event of equipment failure and the need to repair it.
It contains admixtures of aragonite to buffer the pH to an optimal level for the growth of beneficial bacteria, while preventing an increase in acidity, which if too high could lead to the destruction of the bacteria and reduction of the filter efficiency (which happens with competitive products).
Available sizes
22.86 cm x 11.43 cm x 6.35 cm
Instructions for use
Use 1 XPort NO3 Brick for every 3800 l of aquarium water. Use more product with more impurities. Rinse the brick well with aquarium water or purified tap water. To achieve the best results, colonize the medium with bacteria using FlorinBacter, Micr â„¢ Bacter7 or Micr â„¢ BacterCLEAN preparations as per the tank type guidelines. Place XPort NO3 Brick in a plastic container, fill the container with aquarium water, add the full recommended dose of any of the above preparations depending on the size of the aquarium. Leave for one night and then place the so colonized XPort NO3 Brick in the filter. Water from the container can be poured back into the aquarium.
Before using the XPort NO3 Brick medium, it is recommended to use a sponge, thin filter fabric or other type of mechanical filtration to prevent the medium from becoming clogged with organic substances.
To achieve the best possible results, you should also use a good carbon source to support bacterial growth, e.g. Brightwell Aquatics products such as bioactive Katalyst granules or liquid preparations Reef BioFuel and Florin Axis.
Additional information
You can use more XPort NO3 Brick at a time than specified in the manufacturer’s instructions. This will not cause too intensive filtration, because bacterial growth is limited by the tank parameters.
It is recommended to use one whole brick even in smaller aquarium systems with a capacity of 190 liters. For aquariums under 190 l, it is recommended to use Xport NO3 Cubes.
For nitrification or removal of ammonia and nitrite compounds from water, it is recommended to use brick for settlement by aerobic bacteria or for best results placing it above the water line. To do this, place the brick in such a way that it is above the water level, and then let a small stream of water through it. It is not required or desirable to let all the water flowing from the filter through the brick.
The optimal water flow is between 40 and 80 liters per hour. Adjust the water flow in the filter so that it penetrates through the brick, not flowing down its surface. It should also be remembered that the elimination of nitrates occurs as a result of anaerobic processes, and therefore the limited amount of oxygen reaching the brick has a positive effect on the process of removing these compounds from water. If possible, install a brick in a sump, below the water surface, in a place with very low water flow.
To use one brick for two purposes, i.e. oxygen nitrification and anaerobic denitrification, it must be installed below the water surface and the water flow should be set at an average level. Bacteria growing on the upper, about 6 mm, brick layer are aerobic bacteria that will consume all oxygen, therefore anaerobic or anaerobic processes will occur inside the brick, where denitrification bacteria will develop. Thanks to this treatment, it will be possible for both nitrification processes to occur on the surface of the medium and denitrification processes inside it.
XPort NO3 Brick allows simultaneous use of aerobic and anaerobic filtration, but where there is a need for mainly nitrification processes, we recommend buying XPort BIO Brick and using it instead of or with XPort NO3 Brick.
Gas exchange is one of the important parameters in marine systems. The Xport series products are the best biological filtration media in the world, but they do not provide good gas exchange. Therefore, we recommend using the so-called bioballs (or biocells), which a small number, after placing in the main flow stream, will improve the functioning of the entire system.
